Federal actions target unqualified drivers and fraudulent training schools
Regulators are targeting fraudulent training providers and unsafe operators. The actions aim to level the playing field for compliant motor carriers and professional drivers.
Federal and state agencies have increased enforcement against unqualified drivers and noncompliant carriers.
Regulators removed nearly 10,000 commercial driver license schools from the federal Training Provider Registry. Officials identified 550 of those schools as fraudulent.
Law enforcement placed thousands of unqualified drivers out of service. Investigators reviewed hundreds of high-risk motor carriers. More than $217 million has been directed toward CDL integrity and highway safety programs. Related reforms are moving forward in over 20 states.
Industry leaders and regulators are pushing for stronger CDL safeguards and better oversight of training programs. They also want improved safety data sharing between state and federal databases. The plan calls for stricter rules on electronic logging devices to prevent tampering.
These actions target operators that manipulate records and evade accountability. The measures aim to protect professional drivers and compliant motor carriers who follow safety rules. Federal officials and state agencies continue to coordinate on these safety measures.
