FMCSA warns carriers about fake Motus registration emails

A new email scam is targeting the Motus registration system. The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration issued a fraud alert to warn carriers about the messages. Companies are receiving messages that ask for an immediate profile update. The fake messages ask recipients to click a button that claims to open the new portal.

The official registration site uses a specific web address. The agency confirmed that the correct government domain ends with dot gov. The fraudulent messages use wrong capitalization and send users to unauthorized pages.

Carriers should avoid clicking links from unexpected senders. Dispatch staff can move their mouse pointer over any hyperlink to view the actual destination address. Only open the page if the address matches the official government site.

If a company receives a suspicious message, the agency recommends reporting it to the Federal Trade Commission. Carriers should also delete the email to prevent accidental clicks. Protecting registration accounts stops fraudsters from stealing company data.
