Federal tip line opens for reporting commercial driver license fraud

Federal agencies have opened a new anonymous reporting line for truckers to report suspected commercial driver license fraud and unauthorized drivers.

Carriers and drivers can call 866-347-2423 or submit reports online to Homeland Security Investigations. The agency asks reporters to avoid sending the same information twice through different channels.

Department of Homeland Security officials noted that unauthorized individuals obtaining commercial licenses have been linked to fatal crashes in Florida, Indiana, Oregon, and Pennsylvania. Secretary Markwayne Mullin said federal partners will increase enforcement to prevent further accidents.

The new line works alongside a separate reporting system started by Indiana Senator Jim Banks in February. That earlier program collects information about carriers hiring drivers who lack proper work authorization or fail to meet English safety requirements.

Reports from both channels are reviewed and forwarded to the Department of Transportation and its Office of Inspector General. The agencies use this information to target carriers employing unauthorized drivers.
