DHS opens 24-hour tip line for CDL fraud reports
The hotline is active now. Federal agents will run checkpoint operations in Maine, Wisconsin and Michigan to check driver credentials.
A new hotline is available for reporting suspected commercial driver license fraud. The line runs around the clock and is managed by Immigration and Customs Enforcement. It was announced on September 9.
Federal investigators will join transportation officials and certified inspectors at road checkpoints. Maine, Wisconsin and Michigan are the first locations for these operations.
Three targeted initiatives are underway. One focuses on drivers with final deportation orders. Another looks for undocumented individuals holding commercial licenses. A third group tracks undocumented drivers operating commercial vehicles.
Federal agents will also pursue networks using counterfeit paperwork and illegal money schemes. Officials published a list of nine foreign drivers who held commercial licenses and were linked to fatal crashes.
Carriers and drivers can call 866-347-2423 to report licensing violations. The number is active every day of the week.
