What is coming

Every deadline on this page was public weeks before anyone acted on it.

On 9 July the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration revoked ten electronic logging devices. The names are ordinary, and they are the kind of low-cost brands that circulate by word of mouth in immigrant-owned fleets. A carrier running one of them goes out of service once the replacement window closes, whether or not anybody told them.

Nobody did tell them. The information sat in a federal register that is free to read and almost impossible to notice. That gap, between what is published and what actually reaches a driver, is the whole reason a trade association exists.

FMCSA keeps a public register of every electronic logging device it has approved, and a second list of the ones it has taken off. A carrier running a revoked device goes out of service once the replacement window closes. Both lists are free to read and neither is easy to find, so we keep a copy here.

Is that USDOT number real?

Before you take a load from a broker, or hand one to a carrier, check the number. FMCSA's record says whether the outfit is registered, whether it is allowed to operate today, and whether it holds the authority the job actually needs — a broker cannot haul it, and a private fleet cannot haul it for you.

Fuel

A discount is easy. The argument afterwards is not.

The card gives members diesel at the association's negotiated price at more than eight thousand locations, with the price visible before the pump — 75¢ a gallon off, on average, across the network. That much any issuer with a network can claim.

What is not ordinary is the hour after something fails. A charge posts at the wrong rate, or a card declines at two in the morning, and the dispute lands in the gap between a truck stop and an issuer where neither believes it belongs to them. A member calls the fuel desk and we take it from there.

FMCSA Temporarly allows fuel haulers to drive up to 16 hours

Effective September 16 through December 16, 2026, eligible fuel haulers may drive up to 16 hours within a 24-hour period. Drivers must receive at least six consecutive hours in the sleeper berth—or eight consecutive hours off duty when the truck has no sleeper.

The agency extended customer service hours to 11 p.m. Eastern time and added Saturday support. It also warned that scammers are sending fake update notices with malicious links.
