Shell Rotella announces new heavy-duty oils for upcoming API standards
Fleet managers should note the January 1 licensing date for the new specifications and plan maintenance updates for early 2027. Warranty coverage will increase for two of the three new oil grades.
New heavy-duty engine oils will be available for fleets when updated industry specifications take effect. Shell Rotella introduced the products to meet the upcoming API CL-4 and FB-4 standards. Maintenance managers should track the January 1 licensing date and plan oil purchases for early 2027.
The updated oils focus on reducing engine wear, preventing oil breakdown, and keeping internal components clean. Shell reports that the T4 15W-40 grade shows fifty-eight percent better deposit control than the older CK-4 formula. The T5 10W-30 grade meets oil breakdown limits by more than ninety percent, and the T6 10W-30 grade offers sixty-six percent extra wear protection compared to the new API CL-4 baseline.
Warranty terms will change with the product launch. Coverage for the T5 Advanced Synthetic Blend will extend to twelve years or four hundred thousand miles. The T6 Full Synthetic grade will carry coverage up to fifteen years or six hundred thousand miles. The T4 Triple Protection line will keep its current limit of ten years or three hundred thousand miles.
Company engineers developed these formulas using laboratory tests and real-world fleet trials. The testing program logged over fifteen million miles on the road and included inspections of trucks with Detroit Diesel engines that have run past seven hundred thousand miles. Maintenance teams can use these updated oils to support modern emissions equipment and adjust their service schedules accordingly.
